Hundreds of students at the University of Central Florida joined a dance craze that is sweeping the nation.? About 700 students packed the student union on Friday afternoon to dance the "Harlem Shake."
Videos showing the young and the old dancing the new dance been recreated dozens of times and they are popping up all over YouTube.
UCF freshman Devin Raposo organized the shoot.
"It's crazy, right?" said Raposo. "I wasn't expecting it. I started off as a joke, like this isn't going to happen, but then when it did, this is really something I want to be a part of."
He posted his idea online. Several students volunteered to help him.
"Just last night, matter of fact, we contacted each other," said DJ Sheen Boogie, a senior at UCF. "I grabbed some speakers. I wanted to mc on the mic."
"We just used a Go-Pro Hero 3 Black Edition," said UCF student Mike Collins. "We had a quick camera change and used a cannon 70."
Other students came just to shake.
The videos always begin with one guy dancing alone.
"We have Knightro, who is our school mascot," said Raposo. "He's going to be the one who starts it off. In the video, in the beginning, you always have the one guy dancing and others doing nothing."
Then the beat drops, and the flash mob loses their minds. Their video is already on YouTube.
The guys said this video is special.
"One of the big things is we did have a ton of people show up," said Collins. "In addition to that, we had multiple levels."
"We are UCF," said DJ Sheen Boogie. "We are a great school with great school spirit. Everybody collaborates with everybody. We are one big family. When one of us has a goal we all come together and make it happen."
Students are hoping for at least one million views on YouTube.
