More and more parents are opting to educate their children at home to avoid the many inadequacies of public schools. But there are some downfalls to homeschooling that must also be avoided. This article contains needed information if you plan to provide the homeschooling experience for your kids.
There are homeschooling groups in many areas. You will have to do research to see if any are available where you live. You can get more information and advice by attending these meetings. You can save on the high cost of books by trading them amongst other parents.
Lay out your reasons for wanting to homeschool on paper. You already know why you have made this choice, but writing it down will help make things clear for your spouse. Write down the goals for your school, the reasons you think this is important and questions that you hope to find answers to. You can explain yourself more clearly.
TIP! Don?t just dive into homeschooling; prepare you and your child by attending some conferences or workshops. Teaching can become overwhelming! There are classes and seminars that will provide you with the inspiration and guidance you need to ensure that your venture with homeschooling is successful.
Are you ready for the financial sacrifices that come from homeschooling? For instance, it will require one parent to be at home and not working. If you choose to do it, you need to think about the time away from accomplishing your daily chores around the house, and hiring services such as grocery delivery will cost you more.
Go on excursions with other local homeschooling families. This simultaneously provides hours of fun and socialization time. Additionally, you will get a group discount!
Find some other families that home school for support. Homeschooling is a growing trend. You might be surprised at the number of other homeschoolers you find in your area. You might also look online for support or read blogs for advice. These families can be a great resource for support, ideas, materials and socialization. This will also give your children the opportunity to make friends. Having a support group can make your schooling a smoother experience.
TIP! If it?s within your budget, think about hiring someone to help around the house. Homeschool takes a lot of time, so that you don?t have as much time or energy to do housework and errands.
You should have fun when you are homeschooling your kids. If one subject in particular interests you, learn everything you can about it. Search for learning resources online, and visit your community library for copious amounts of free information. Use this information to help educate your child. That is a situation where everyone wins.
A diary or journal is a great teaching tool for a child. You can keep track of not just their progress, but their whole life. This allows them to provide their own perspective on things. Encourage them to add descriptive drawings, photos or even small objects affixed to the pages. This can be a great piece to your child?s portfolio that you can look back on for years to come.
You must find ways to keep things interesting for your children because it will be very easy for them to get bored. Your children will spend a lot of time with you, and making it interesting should be a priority. Homeschooling forums are replete with great, fun ideas.
TIP! If you?ve joined a homeschooling community, use all the resources they provide. You may get free materials, field trip assistance, music lessons and additional resources.
Create a pros and cons list about public school and homeschooling. This list will ensure that your child is getting effective homeschooling. The list can be a check list of certain situations to avoid, and what areas to be your focus as part of their education. Place it someplace safe, where you can easily reference it.
Plan meals in advance. Homeschooling takes a lot of time. Therefore elaborate meal plans are likely to become unachievable. Most of the time, you will have to resort to fast food. Prepare several meals over the weekend and freeze them. That will help you avoid an evening rush. You can make a lesson out of it by getting your children to assist you. Then when it is time to eat all you will need to do is thaw it out and reheat it.
It is important to be clear about your class schedule with your children. When school is over, allow them the freedom of choosing when they should do additional studies. For example, let your plan an activity such as going to the movies or to a theme park to help maintain a sense of family.
TIP! New information about homeschooling is always coming out. Internet groups composed of homeschooling parents are widely available.
Ensure that you are firm when it comes to your child completing homework. You don?t want your children falling behind. It is important for kids to learn how to compartmentalize time.
When you take a vacation with your kids, use them for teaching purposes. For example, take family trips to historical sites, zoos and botanical gardens, and museums. Take a day or two of each trip for learning. Your entire family will enjoy the togetherness and the opportunity to learn new things.
It is easy to overextend yourself with household chores in addition to the time and effort you need to invest in your homeschooling efforts. Never fear asking your spouse or partner to chip in with the housework. If you personally have the resources to hire external help, consider it.
TIP! You need to be dedicated to homeschooling. Lots of well-meaning loved ones are negative about homeschooling.
After reading this article, homeschooling seems more possible. Use the information you?ve learned here, and you will have no problem starting the homeschooling experience. You will also be happy knowing your children will be taught well.
Because of all the knowledge that exists on fast pay plan, your job is to pick out the right information for you. The most important thing is to learn all you can. Whenever you have learned all the information you need, you can then formulate a better plan.

Did you know that whether you are starting a new business or already in operation of one that you can benefit from the services of small business accounting professionals? In fact, there are so many different financial topics that a business owner gets hit with; it can be overwhelming without assistance. If you are handling your own finances in a small business, you will need to learn all about entitlements and obligations under the Canadian Revenue Agency laws. Second, you will need to learn a wide array of financial topics to make sure you are following all the laws, while still maximizing the money going in your pocket.
These topics range in the small business accounting realm:
This short list is only a fraction of what you need to learn in the small business accounting world to properly maintain and run your financial operations for your small business. Other subjects include provincial taxes for local businesses, small business deductions, recording journal entries, consolidating, questions about incorporating your business, and budgeting for your business.
Instead of attempting to tackle all of these tasks yourself or hiring someone you cannot afford, the easiest route to go for any business is to enlist the services of small business accounting professionals. When using professionals, you can count on knowing that they will be taking care of all the paperwork and the headaches alike. This way you can do what you do best; taking care of your clients, increasing sales, and growing your company. Many times, businesses do not do as well as they could because they make the mistake of not using professional resources at hand. Instead, they focus all their time on things like payroll and business taxes, while the business is neglected. When this happens, the business suffers, the customers suffer and the employees suffer. In a small business world where the business owner tries to take on too much, there can be a negative domino effect. Avoid this by getting affordable professionals where you know what your fee will be every month.
Small business owners feel that they cannot afford the services of small business accounting professionals, but they are wrong and are unaware of all the unseen benefits:
1.?? ?There are no unexpected fees or surprise charges.
2.?? ?A professional service will not call out sick or need vacation time.
3.?? ?You do not need to spend hours learning new laws, regulations and tax codes.
4.?? ?Your finances are protected and maintained in confidence.
5.?? ?You do not have to keep track of critical dates; the professionals will remind you of them.
6.?? ?They will keep up with the changes in laws, updates, and obligations so you do not have to worry about it.
7.?? ?No need to hire an employee, and have to pay for training or deal with extra overhead.
8.?? ?No need in adding on unnecessary management duties that distract you from your business.
It is advisable to not fall for the software route either when it comes to your small business accounting needs. While it may seem that for a one time fee you are getting a small business accountant in your computer, you are not. There are many pitfalls that people do not consider when they put out the initial cost for their accounting software. Business owners typically are under the impression that the accounting software is going to take care of everything for them. There could not be anything further from the truth. Software purchases many times will entail ? more RAM, increased processor speeds and a larger hard drive memory. Then there is additional storage space for backing up the accounting data, technical support, upgrade and licensing fees, setup charges, consultant fees, and the list continues. As if that is not enough, there may also be maintenance costs, training obstacles, difficulty factors, and time losses endured as a result of implementing the software for your business. This can all equate to one thing. Financial losses.
Stop worrying about all of these topics and reports you do not understand, and get back to your business. There is no better time than now to get the help of a small business accounting staff of professionals for a fixed rate per month.
The professionals at WizeBiz have been making businesses happy for over 5 years now with their small business accounting services, technology solutions and comprehensive tax services. Take the time to check them out for your accounting solutions so you can maximize the money going in your pocket.
Outsource your small business accounting needs to WizeBiz to save time, money, resources and to get access to the power of the ADP payroll system.

FOX, Dec. 16, 1:25 p.m. ET
Once upon a time there was a commercial for a phone I?ll never buy, advertising a technological frill I?d never use, implying a spice-up-the-relationship trick that I would not recommend, that was nonetheless the sexiest thing I?d seen on TV in quite some time. I?m speaking, of course, of the ad in which a wife sends her husband off on a business trip with a racy video, beamed directly into his Samsung phone via X-ray technology or whatever, with the sly admonition, ?Probably shouldn?t watch it on the plane.?*
Needless to say, this ad is silly. If there is anything we have learned from the travails of Hulk Hogan, it is that if a video of anyone doing anything sort of sexual exists on a Wi-Fi-enabled device, that video will somehow make its way to the Internet in the way that an air bubble trapped underwater will, eventually, make its way to the surface. This husband and loving father, who seems so cute and beardy and clueless, will, in the rush to make his plane, leave his phone in the cab. Nefarious elements will find the phone. Within days, his mother-in-law will be asked at book club: ?Was that your darling daughter I saw on YouPorn? ?
But it doesn?t matter. For in that moment, as the wife gives that little waggle of her eyebrows, the husband all at once realizes what she?s saying, and she gives a chipper wave and a ?Say bye to Daddy!?; they are the very picture of modern, technologically enhanced marital bliss. They are sexy and adorable. I would do anything to be like them (but I wouldn?t do that) (if by do that you mean buy a Samsung phone).
And then anyway, in the first quarter of Dec. 16?s early NFL games, Samsung ruined it by unveiling the ad?s follow-up?a shot-for-shot remake, like Gus Van Sant?s Psycho, with Santa and Mrs. Claus in place of the couple, and two elves in place of the kids. I love this ad even more than the previous one?not just because of general senior sex-positivity, but because it is so clearly the act of a company and an agency taking it juuuuuuust one step too far. It was such an obviously bad idea, but they did it anyway. The best thing about television in 2012 was that there were hundreds of channels, and they all had 525,600 minutes of airtime to fill this year, which means that just as there were times that everything went right, there were also plenty of chances for everything to go wrong.
Correction, Dec. 28 2012: This article initially punctuated the sexy wife's punchline with an exclamation point. She doesn't exclaim; she admonishes slyly. (Return.)

NEW ORLEANS (AP) ? The New Orleans Saints and suspended coach Sean Payton will indeed be together again next season as the bounty scandal fades into history and the bid to win a second Super Bowl resumes.
Payton has agreed in principle to a multiyear contract extension, according to two people familiar with the deal.
The people told The Associated Press about the deal Friday night on condition of anonymity because it hasn't been signed and final details regarding the length of the contract and financial compensation are still being worked out.
"Very happy it is official," Brees said in an email to the AP. "Never had any doubts."
Payton was due to begin his seventh season as the Saints' head coach in 2012 before being suspended for the whole season by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in connection with the NFL's bounty investigation.
Payton signed an extension in 2011 that would have kept him in New Orleans through 2015, but Goodell objected to certain language in that deal, leaving Payton's future uncertain until the deal was reached Friday. The language in question in the previous extension gave Payton the right to opt out early if general manager Mickey Loomis left the club for any reason.
The new agreement, which was first reported by Fox Sports, also must be approved by the NFL.
Payton is the only coach in Saints history to win a Super Bowl, a title earned at the end of the 2009 season. But his legacy was tarnished by the NFL's bounty probe, as Goodell ruled that Payton failed to exert proper institutional control over a cash-for-hits bounty program run by former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams from 2009-2011.
Although the Saints objected to the characterization of what coaches and players have said was nothing more than a performance pool for big plays, Goodell suspended Payton for the entire season. The commissioner also suspended Loomis for half of the season and assistant head coach Joe Vitt for six games.
Payton is 62-34 as in regular-season games as Saints head coach and 5-3 in the postseason. During the three seasons before his suspension, the Saints won 41 regular-season and playoff games combined, more than any other team in the NFL.
Payton has primarily handled the offense in New Orleans, teaming up with Brees to break numerous NFL and club records. The single-season NFL records set by the Saints in 2011 included yards passing by a team (5,505) and a quarterback (5,476). The Saints also set a record for total offensive yards with 7,474.
Although speculation ran rampant that Payton could essentially become a free agent after this season and end up elsewhere, Brees repeatedly said he would be "shocked" if Payton ended up anywhere but New Orleans next season. Brees is under contract with the Saints through the 2016 season, and Payton was the driving force in the Saints' effort to acquire Brees as a free agent in 2006.
Without Payton on the sideline this season, the Saints missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008. Brees remained prolific, but his 18 interceptions also tied for a league high heading into the final weekend of the season.
The Saints headed into Sunday's season finale against Carolina at 7-8, hoping to avoid their first losing season since they went 7-9 in 2007.
Payton is expected to return to the Saints immediately after the Super Bowl on Feb. 3, unless Goodell allows him to return earlier.
When Payton reports back to work, it will offically close the book on the bounty saga that has overshadowed the Saints' organization since the NFL first announced on March 2 that it found the Saints ran a program that paid improper cash bonuses for hits that injured opponents.
In addition to the suspensions of Payton, Loomis and Vitt, the Saints also were docked second-round draft choices in 2012 and 2013, though Goodell has said he could potentially restores the Saints' 2013 second-round choice and dock the team a later-round pick.
Meanwhile, four current or former Saints were initially given suspensions of varying lengths. Two current Saints defensive captains, linebacker Jon Vilma and defensive end Will Smith, were among those suspended. Vilma was banned for the whole season and Smith for four games, but the players successfully challenged their punishment with the help of the NFL Players Association and never served a game.
Former Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, who was appointed by Goodell to oversee the players' appeals, ruled that the NFL probe was accurate in its findings that the Saints ran and improper program and attempted to cover it up, but that the evidence was not strong enough to warrant unprecedented suspensions for players who had been only fined for similar behavior in the past.

FISCAL CLIFF
ABC News' Sarah Parnass, John Parkinson, and Reena Ninan: "At Edge of 'Cliff,' White House Lashes Out at 'Congressional Stupidity'" With only days to come up with a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff, the White House said "congressional stupidity" was damaging the economy but that an agreement could be reached if Republican leaders don't get in the way. LINK
The Hill's Jonathan Easley and Peter Schroeder: " Obama, lawmakers return to 'cliff' with little room left to maneuver" With time running out, President Obama and members of the Senate will return to Washington on Thursday in search of a scaled-back agreement to lessen the economic pain of the "fiscal cliff." Lawmakers are under pressure to pass some kind of legislation that reverses or delays the tax increases and spending cuts slated for January, but they find themselves without a clear path forward after the breakdown in negotiations between Obama and Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). LINK
The Los Angeles Times' Lisa Mascaro: " Mitch McConnell lies low as 'fiscal cliff' nears" This time of year, Republican leader Mitch McConnell's office suite, steps away from the Senate floor, often crackles with a fire in the hearth. On Wednesday, it sat shuttered and almost empty. The cold stillness captured the state of affairs as senators and President Obama prepared to return to work Thursday facing an imminent deadline to avoid across-the-board tax increases and large spending cuts scheduled to take effect Tuesday. LINK
The Washington Times' Stephen Dinan: " Liberals press own red lines in 'fiscal cliff' talks" Republicans said Wednesday that it's now Democratic leaders' turn to feel the heat of trying to work out a budget deal. After House conservatives sank his plan last week, Speaker John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican, and his top lieutenants said it's now up to President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, to take the next step and try to write a deal that can get through the Senate. LINK
The New York Times' Jonathan Weisman and Jennifer Steinhauer: " Senators to Return With 5 Days Left and No Clear Fiscal Path" With just five days left to make a deal, President Obama and members of the Senate were set to return to Washington on Thursday with no clear path out of their fiscal morass even as the Treasury Department warned that the government will soon be unable to pay its bills unless Congress acts. LINK
The Washington Post's Lori Montgomery Paul Kane: " On 'fiscal cliff,' Obama and senators returning to Washington for one last attempt at deal" With historic tax increases set to hit virtually every American in five days, President Obama and members of the Senate are headed back to Washington on Thursday to take one last shot at a deal to protect taxpayers and the gathering economic recovery. If anything, hope for success appeared to have dimmed over the Christmas holiday. The Republican-controlled House last week abdicated responsibility for resolving the crisis, leaving all eyes on the Senate. But senior aides in both parties said Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) have not met or even spoken since leaving town for the weekend. LINK
Politico's Manu Raju and Jake Sherman: " Fiscal cliff deal increasingly unlikely" Nearly all the major players in the fiscal cliff negotiations are starting to agree on one thing: A deal is virtually impossible before the New Year. Unlike the bank bailout in 2008, the tax deal in 2010 and the debt ceiling in 2011, the Senate almost certainly won't swoop in and help sidestep a potential economic calamity, senior officials in both parties predicted on Wednesday. LINK
DEBT CEILING
The Wall Street Journal's Damian Paletta and Janet Hook: " Debt Ceiling Nears as Budget Talks Stymied" The Treasury Department said Wednesday the government would hit its legal borrowing limit by Monday, setting in motion emergency measures to keep the government operating for several more weeks and serving as a reminder that the nation's budget wrangling could continue well into 2013. LINK
PRESIDENT H.W. BUSH
USA Today's Doug Stanglin: " Elder Bush in intensive care with 'stubborn' fever" Former president George H.W. Bush, who was hospitalized in Houston last month with a bronchitis-like cough, has been in intensive care since Sunday because of a "stubborn" fever that has worsened in recent days, his spokesman said Wednesday evening. As with any other types of businesses, publishing your own online newsletter a.k.a. eZine has its share of drawbacks, in spite of the several benefits it offer.
The purpose of this article is not to scare you away with the disadvantages of publishing your own eZine, as the benefits are often more attractive. However, I will also show you how you can easily tackle the cons.
One obvious challenge most beginning eZine publishers face is the creation of eZine content. Creating your own content can be tiresome, especially if you are not a gifted writer and that you run out of ideas every so often that your publishing schedule is threatening you.
A way of taking care of this problem is to create your content in advance. You can compile 30 days worth of content in one day, for example. If you are not blessed with writing skills, you can broker the writing task to capable freelance writers which you can find at places such as http://www.elance.com/ or http://www.rentacoder.com/. While you need to pay for such services, you are at liberty to take the credit for written articles.
Alternatively, you can republish articles from article directories such as http://ezinearticles.com/. This is a free method you can use in making content, provided you include the resource box of the original author and that the article has republishing rights conveyed.
In conclusion, you can easily tackle the content creation challenge using the mentioned methods that do not require writing on your part, free or paid.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa P. Jackson announced at an agency staff meeting Thursday that she will be stepping down from the position next month. Jackson had spoken to President Barack Obama shortly after his re-election this past November about the possibility of her leaving the agency. Her single term under President Obama was marked with criticism from both GOP members and environmental advocates on some of the nation's most important and controversial environmental issues.
Here are some facts and details about Jackson's departure as head of the EPA and what it will mean for the future of the agency:
* The New York Times reported that Jackson told her staff that she was confident that "the ship is sailing in the right direction."
* Jackson, who is a chemical engineer and the agency's first African-American administrator, gave no indication of her future plans and so far the Obama administration has not announced who will replace her as the head of the EPA.
* Robert Perciasepe currently serves as the EPA deputy administrator and is expected to serve as the interim administrator until he or another individual is officially appointed.
* Jackson faced some tough issues during her four-year term that included the BP oil spill in the Gulf, the Keystone XL oil pipeline, pollution standards, and climate change, noted the Associated Press.
* During her term, she set historic fuel economy standards for passenger vehicles, which will be phased in and eventually require all new vehicles to average 54.5 mpg.
* She also help officially finalize clean air standards for mercury pollution from power plants.
* Whomever replaces Jackson will have to serve Obama through his second term as president and will ultimately face an unfinished agenda that includes issuing new health protections against carbon emissions from power plants.
* Other upcoming issues are regulations on toxic chemicals and water quality. The EPA is also in the middle of compiling a long-term and collective study on how fracking is impacting drinking water supplies and other aspects of the environment, according to an article from the Washington Post.
* Aside from Perciasepe, Gina McCarthy, who is in charge of the EPA's air and radiation office, is considered another leading candidate for the position.
* In speaking about Jackson's tenure and four years of service, President Obama offered praise for her "unwavering commitment to the health of our families and our children" and added "Lisa has been an important part of my team."
Rachel Bogart provides an in-depth look at current environmental issues and local Chicago news stories. Currently pursuing her master's degree in environmental science, she applies her knowledge and passion to both topics to garner further public awareness.

My last column about the season of giving suggested that Green Living can be a wonderful way to express our appreciation to those we care about. Just after I wrote it, a friend sent a wonderful email providing a real world example of exactly what I had in mind. I?ll refer to this couple as Jenn and Rob.
The excitement in Jenn?s email was obvious. She mentioned ?a Merrier Christmas season? for her and Rob, attributing it to the energy efficient, home quality improvements they had implemented earlier this year after moving in to a home built in the early 60s.
Jenn included some images of a recent online utility bill and wrote, ?Just look at our latest NV Energy bill. See the graph comparing our energy use to neighboring homes?! Our house is a little larger than average for this neighborhood and we are paying close to 40% less each month in energy bills!?
She told me later that she just got excited while paying the bill and decided to share the news with her friends. Energy efficiency may not be the sexiest thing in the world, but I can almost guarantee that every time Jenn and Rob get their bill, they will both be grateful for what they have given to each other.
How did they do it? Here is what Jenn wrote:
?Following our energy efficiency upgrades we tested out at about a 37% improvement. And our NV Energy bills have been right on track! We started with an $11,000 total package that included a new variable speed pool pump, blown-in attic insulation, replacement of one of two heat pumps, and new programmable thermostats. Still, we were only out of pocket $1,700 after all the great rebates and our green mortgage! We have lots more we want to do (mainly windows and patio doors ? there?s tons of them!) and want to see just how low we can go?before Santa finally brings our solar panels (next year, maybe??).
?Oops! ?almost forgot to include one of our favorite new features?our Solar Water Heater?love it! At least we have one sexy solar panel on our roof!?
Hmm, perhaps I was wrong about this stuff not being sexy. Jenn?s excitement really comes through in her message, as well as the fact that they are nowhere near done. The couple is looking forward to further changes that will lower their bills even more while improving their home quality, comfort and value.
Aside from experiencing a more comfortable summer this year, Jenn said one welcome benefit was immediately obvious. When one of their old heat pumps was replaced with a more efficient unit, the contractors also repaired a previously undetected problem with the air intake system. This led to an unexpected improvement in the indoor air quality of the home that was delightfully noticed within minutes of turning on the new system.
If you are interested in giving your family a similar gift, you are in for a pleasant surprise. EnergyFit Nevada is a non-profit organization that helps homeowners through the entire process, step by step. They provide pre-qualified contractors; they are aware of all available incentives, including NV Energy, Southwest Gas and others; and can even explain the benefits of a green mortgage. Best of all, they offer performance-based rebates that help pay for your improvements.
The basic process is simple. Initial testing establishes a baseline that, coupled with a detailed inspection, helps determine what improvements are best suited for each particular home. The homeowner selects from the available options and the work is done by contractors who are properly trained for the program. Final testing determines the amount of improvement, and therefore the rebate amount.
EnergyFit Nevada consists of a great group of people who are making a difference. They have helped a lot of folks like Jenn and Rob. If you have an older home and high energy bills, why not give them a call? It just might be the best gift you can buy.
To contact EnergyFit Nevada in Southern Nevada: 702-734-2000, in Northern Nevada: 775-230-7133, via email: info@homefreenv.org or visit their website: www.energyfitnevada.org.

Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio head to the pre-Civil War South in Quentin Tarantino?s Django Unchained.
The film from the Weinstein Company bowed Christmas Day to $15 million, the top opening for an R-rated film on the holiday. Although its depiction of slavery has been criticized by Spike Lee and its use of the n-word has been rebuked by others, Django received? strong reviews from critics and currently holds an 89 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as an 80 percent on Metacritic.

Read what top critics had to say about the film below.
The Hollywood Reporter?s Todd McCarthy, who included it in his top 10 films of 2012, wrote: ?Tarantino?s affinity for black culture and interest in the ways blacks and whites relate always have been evident, but they?ve never before been front and center to the extent that they are in Django Unchained. Some might object to the writer-director?s tone, historical liberties, comic japes or other issues, but there can be no question who gets the shaft here: This is a story of justifiable vengeance, pure and simple, and no paleface is spared, even the good German who facilitates a slave?s transformation into a take-no-prisoners hunter of whites who trade in black flesh.?
Washington Post?s Ann Hornaday: ?The art of creative anachronism Tarantino practices in this extravaganza of Southern gothic camp is far more successful than 2009?s Inglourious Basterds in meaningfully engaging the history it?s repurposing. Where Basterds was little more than a larky speculative burlesque, Django Unchained possesses an unmistakable subversive power, its playfully insurrectionist spirit perhaps the modern-day pop-culture equivalent of far more high stakes rebellions of yore.?
STORY: Spike Lee: 'Django Unchained' is 'Disrespectful,' I Will Not See It
New York Times? A.O. Scott: ?It is digressive, jokey, giddily brutal and ferociously profane. But it is also a troubling and important movie about slavery and racism.?
Slate?s Dana Stevens: ?Django Unchained, Quentin Tarantino?s blaxploitationspaghetti western about a freed slave turned bounty hunter, provoked a lot of contradictory feelings in me, including some that don?t usually come in pairs: Hilarity and boredom. Aesthetic delight and physical nausea. Fist-pumping righteousness and vague moral unease. Of course, provoking intense feelings is what Tarantino?s cinema is all about.?
Chicago Tribune?s Michael Phillips: ?By the two-hour mark the fun had oozed out of the movie for me. It's long. Or feels it. Tarantino's scripts tend to read, and play, like writing samples stitched together, full of heavily brocaded monologues for his most voluble characters. Yet he's a lousy self-editor, and despite his prodigious filmmaking knowledge and lust for filmmaking history, as a director he struggles with pacing and excess and detours.?
STORY: Tarantino's 'Django Unchained' Reignites Debate Over N-Word in Movies
Los Angeles Times? Betsy Sharkey: ?In Django, Tarantino is a man unchained, creating his most articulate, intriguing, provoking, appalling, hilarious, exhilarating, scathing and downright entertaining film yet. Even given the grand tradition of artists using their work for sharp social rebukes ? Mel Brooks' genius swipe at Nazism in "The Producers," for one ?Tarantino's mash-ups between the unconscionable inhumanity of others and his outrageous riffs on the matter defy comparison.?

Communications has come quite a long way since I was a troop in the US Army. Commo as we call it was often tenous at best and many times we could not even talk to our superior or subordinate units when we needed to.
Heat and bad atmospheric conditions hampered our operations and we had to use and maintain the correct authentication codes in order to communicate.
Radios were heavy and generally unreliable but when they worked well they were worth their weight in gold. We used to scramble to find them before we went to the field. If we could find extras we kept them hidden for emergencies.
The U.S. Army recently awarded General Dynamics C4 Systems and Rockwell? Collins with a $306 million contract for 3,726 Handheld, Manpack, Small Form Fit? (HMS) AN/PRC-155 Manpack radios.
?With the game-changing PRC-155 networking radio, soldiers can be confident? they will have access to lifesaving voice and data communications,? said Chris? Marzilli, president of General Dynamics C4 Systems, in a recent GD press? release.
The two-channel PRC-155 completes? the Army?s tactical network by connecting upper to lower tiers, legacy to future? waveforms and terrestrial to over-the-horizon links, said Chris Brady, vice? president of Assured Communications for General Dynamics C4 Systems.
PRC-155s weigh 14 pounds with battery and can be mounted in a vehicle or? carried in a pack. Now 1 pounds can get pretty heavy when you have to carry it around on your back for an extended amount of time but its much better than the radio that it replaces.
It has also been certified by the National Security Agency to communicate? classified voice and data at the Top Secret level and below.? The? certification makes the radio the only secure, two-channel networking radio to? communicate data across the entire force structure between battalion? headquarters and soldiers on foot and in vehicles.
This gives commanders a control and flexibility that is unprecedented before now. Commanders can issue orders directly so that their is no ambuguity and there is no more hoping that the last order was relayed correctly down to the troops who actually have to execute it on the ground.
Oue US Army Infantry Ring troops and all of those who are Spec Ops troops also will benefit greatly from this piece of equipment.

What are some of your Christmas traditions?
These Mexican chocolate bars are adapted from a recipe found in the Holiday 2012 Food and Drink. They are absolutely delicious! Smooth, rich and with just enough spice to give you a kick that leaves you drooling for more. Decadence and spice- what more can you ask for in a Christmas treat?
My gluttony aside, I hope everyone has an amazing holiday, filled with good food, tasty drinks, and awesome company.
Ingredients
Crust
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup finely chopped toasted walnuts
1/8 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/8 cup dark hot chocolate powder
1 1/2 tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp grated orange rind
1 egg
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Filling
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp cloves
1 tsp chili flakes (feel free to put in less if you're sensitive to spice!)
1 cup bittersweet chocolate, chopped (I used chocolate chips)
1 egg, beaten
Topping
1/4 cup bittersweet chocolate
1 tbsp unsalted butter
Directions
Preheat oven to 350F. Line a 9-inch square pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
To make the crust, combine graham cracker crumbs, walnuts, cocoa powder, hot chocolate powder, sugar, salt and orange rind in a bowl. Add egg and melted butter and stir until combined. Put mix into the prepared pan and use your hands to press it down evenly. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust looks matte and is dry to the touch. Set aside.
To make filling, Pour whipping cream into a small heavy pot. Add cinnamon, allspice, cloves and chili flakes to the cream. Bring the mixture to just a boil over medium-low heat. Remove and let stand for about 20 minutes.
Heat oven to 325F. Place the 1 cup of chocolate into a bowl. Return the cream to medium heat and bring it to just a boil again. Immediately pour into the chocolate and let it stand 30 seconds, before stirring it until it's melted and smooth. Stir in the egg and pour the chocolate mix onto the prepared crust. Bake in the oven for 18-22 minutes or until set with a slight wiggle in the centre. Cool and chill for 30 minutes or until firm.
To make the topping, combine the chocolate and butter in a small heavy pot over low heat. Melt, stirring, until the chocolate and butter are smooth. Use an offset spatula to spread the chocolate in an even layer over the spiced filling. Chill for 30 minutes or until the topping has set. Pull up on the parchment paper to lift the bars from the pan and cut into small squares. Enjoy!

NAIROBI (Reuters) - Kenya's parliament approved a national head of police for a fixed six-year term, in a move aimed to boost independence from political interference for security forces dogged by a reputation for corruption.
The stamp of approval for David Kimaiyo as the country's first Inspector General of Police on Thursday comes as Kenya prepares for national elections in March, the first since a disputed 2007 vote provoked ethnic clashes that killed more than 1,200 people and threw a spotlight on security force failings.
Kimaiyo, a former commandant of para-military police usually deployed to quell riots, was nominated by President Mwai Kibaki after being selected in interviews televised live nationally.
In the past, top police commanders could be fired and were accused of aligning themselves with the ruling elite to ensure they hold their posts. The position of inspector general, to be in charge of the three main wings of Kenya's police, was created under a new constitution adopted in 2010.
Critics say officers are poorly paid and the police force has been named as the country's most corrupt institution in many surveys.
Kenya has been hit by gun, grenade and bomb attacks in its capital, Nairobi, the port city of Mombasa and in towns near its frontier with Somalia, which authorities suspect to be the work of Somali Islamist groups. Kenya sent its troops into southern Somalia in October last year to hunt down militants it accused of cross-border security raids and kidnappings.
At least 32 police officers were killed in a military-style ambush in a remote northern part of the country in November, described as the worst attack on police in Kenya's history.

JOHANNESBURG (AP) ? South Africa says at least 633 rhinoceros have been killed this year alone as a poaching epidemic continues to threaten the animals.
South Africa's Department of Environmental Affairs issued the new statistics in a statement Wednesday. The statistics show that 395, the majority of the killings, have taken place at the expansive Kruger National Park in South Africa's northeast.
From the 1990s to 2007, rhino killings in South Africa by poachers averaged about 15 a year. However, the number has soared as buyers in Asia now pay the U.S. street value of cocaine for rhino horn.
Rhino horn is made of keratin, a tough protein found in human fingernails. There's a belief in Asia that taking ground-up horn cures diseases. However, no medical evidence supports that.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? House Speaker John Boehner says President Barack Obama should support a Republican plan to avoid January tax increases on everyone but those earning over $1 million. Boehner says if Obama doesn't support the measure, the president will be responsible for what he calls "the largest tax increase in American history."
Boehner spoke to reporters Wednesday at the Capitol after Obama said he believed a deal with the speaker was close to avoid the "fiscal cliff" ? huge tax boosts and spending cuts taking effect in January unless lawmakers head them off.
Obama and Boehner have yet to produce a compromise. Boehner plans a House vote Thursday on his Plan B ? which would head off most of the tax increases. The White House says Obama would veto that measure.
